Where The Wild Roses Grow

She:

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day

He:
From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
She stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
That grew down the river, all bloody and wild

She:
When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man, and with a careful hand
He wiped at the tears that ran down my face

He:
On the second day I brought her a flower
She was more beautiful than any woman I'd seen
I said, "Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?"

She:
On the second day he came with a single red rose
Said: "Will you give me your loss and your sorrow"
I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed
He said, "If I show you the roses, will you follow?"

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he knelt (stood smiling) above me with a rock in his fist

He:
On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
And I kissed her goodbye, said, "All beauty must die"
And lent down and planted a rose between her teeth

Copper Inscription: Laguna Copperplate Artifact

Here's an interesting artifact that is in no way related to other ancient Filipino artifacts we know today. Hector Santos, a Filipino History enthusiast, mentioned that this black copper piece of metal later known as the "The Laguna Copperplate Inscription" was accidentally unearthed in 1989 by a man who is dredging sands alongside the shore of Lumbang River where it emptied into Laguna de Ba'y.

As to how it is being passed down until it was brought to the National Museum of the Philippines is intriguing. Let's just put it as a history.
Almost all of our artifacts containing incantations, poems, chants or what have you where burned down to ashes by this Spanish friars thinking that they are evil inspired. Unfortunately, we only have a handful of these artifacts that's preserve now. We've lost a significant contact with our brothers in SE Asia primarily because of the impact of Spanish colonization where nothing was left for us to be really identified with our roots.

Chaneling The Godfather

This artwork was photo shopped courtesy of Pax (I'm still figuring out Photoshop-Trial and error). And what's with the Godfather? well, way back college days, I used to watch the Godfather Trilogy a hundred fold times together with my amigos during our spare time, since everybody love the classic film, we decided the call our amigos- The Godfathers. The rest was history. Let's say I am Don Vito Corleone. lol. Our group has a lot of stories to tell that even a thousand and one nights would not be enough to relinquish all the stupidity we did in school, in the hospital area and every place we've been.

Nursing Student: Rest And Sleep

Hi guys, what's up? I've been very busy since last week because of my Review. Everything went very fast these days that I got no time checking my blog. Hmf, and this week is going to be a hell. I just got our updated schedule for the review and found out that I have two weeks straight review without review breathers in between, imagine that. Mind you, that would mean that I'll be seating from 8 AM to 5PM the whole day and just glue myself there listening to the review experts, Argh. I was even losing my energy every time I got home from the review. so miserable.

Nursing Life: My Personality Type

After answering a few questions from this site, http://www.ipersonic.com/ I got my so called "type of Personality" which somehow I did agree.

Analytical Thinkers are reserved, quiet persons. They like to get to the bottom of things - curiosity is one of their strongest motives. They want to know what holds the world together deep down inside. They do not really need much more to be happy because they are modest persons. Many mathematicians, philosophers and scientists belong to this type. Analytical Thinkers loathe contradictions and illogicalness; with their sharp intellect, they quickly and comprehensively grasp patterns, principles and structures. They are particularly interested in the fundamental nature of things and theoretical findings; for them, it is not necessarily a question of translating these into practical acts or in sharing their considerations with others. Analytical Thinkers like to work alone; their ability to concentrate is more marked than that of all other personality types. They are open for and interested in new information.Analytical Thinker

Analytical Thinkers have little interest in everyday concerns - they are always a little like an “absent-minded professor” whose home and workplace are chaotic and who only concerns himself with banalities such as bodily needs when it becomes absolutely unavoidable. The acknowledgement of their work by others does not play a great role for them; in general, they are quite independent of social relationships and very self-reliant. Analytical Thinkers therefore often give others the impression that they are arrogant or snobby - especially because they do not hesitate to speak their mind with their often harsh (even if justified) criticism and their imperturbable self-confidence. Incompetent contemporaries do not have it easy with them. But whoever succeeds in winning their respect and interest has a witty and very intelligent person to talk to. A partner who amazes one with his excellent powers of observation and his very dry humour.

It takes some time before Analytical Thinkers make friends, but then they are mostly friends for life. They only need very few people around them. Their most important ability is to be a match for them and thus give them inspiration. Constant social obligations quickly get on their nerves; they need a lot of time alone and often withdraw from others. Their partner must respect this and understand that this is not due to the lack of affection. Once they have decided in favour of a person, Analytical Thinkers are loyal and reliable partners. However, one cannot expect romance and effusive expressions of feelings from them and they will definitely forget their wedding anniversary. But they are always up to a night spent with stimulating discussions and a good glass of wine!

Nursing Life: Spirituality

The Our Father or otherwise known as the Lord's Prayer is perhaps the best known prayer that is being recited by millions of Christians around the world. This prayer which is absorbed from the Holy Scripture particularly in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke was taught by Jesus to his disciples as a manner of praying to God.

I was just struck by how the Author constructed his reflections in every line of this prayer. One thing that came into my mind was the thought of having this as a constant reminder in my day to day living. This piece challenges our faith to God as it projects a lesson why an individual should be consistent with his words and actions. What a powerful prayer indeed.sigh.

I got this from http://www.thisischurch.com/booklets/lordsprayer.htm

“Our Father"

I cannot say “Our” if religion has no room for others and their needs.

I cannot say “Father”
if I do not demonstrate this relationship in my daily living.

I cannot say “Who art in heaven”
if all my interests and pursuits are on earthly things.

I cannot say “Hallowed be Thy name”
if I, who am called by His name, am not holy.

I cannot say “Thy kingdom come”
if I am unwilling to give up my own sovereignty
And accept the righteous reign of God.

I cannot say “Thy will be done”
if I am unwilling or resentful of having it in my life.

I cannot say “On earth as it is in heaven”
unless I am truly ready to give myself to His service here and now.

I cannot say “Give us this day our daily bread”
without extending honest effort for it
or by ignoring the genuine needs of my fellowmen.

I cannot say “Forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us”
if I continue to harbor a grudge against anyone.

I cannot say “Lead us not into temptation”
If I deliberately choose to remain in a situation
where I am likely to be tempted.

I cannot say “Deliver us from evil”
If I am not prepared to fight
in the spiritual realm with the weapon of prayer.

I cannot say “Thine is the kingdom”
If I do not give the King
The disciplined obedience of a loyal subject.

I cannot say “Thine is the power”
If I fear what my neighbors may say or do.

I cannot say “Thine is the glory”
If I am seeking my own glory first.

I cannot say “Forever”
If I am too anxious about each day’s affairs.

I cannot say “Amen”
Unless I honestly say
“Cost what it may, this is my prayer.”

Love Talk

Top 100 quotes to live and remember by. I got this a from a Multiply blogger.

1. "A kiss is a lovely trick, designed by nature, to stop words when speech becomes superfluous."
--Ingrid Bergmen

2. Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are.

Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.

bored and exhausted

When boredom strikes, I sometimes fight it. So here are the two pictures which I edited using Picasa just to entertain myself out of so much exhaustion and sickness. It's just simple with no sense at all. I haven't eaten my lunch yet and it's late afternoon already. I just thought of doing this in madness. Perhaps, this obra could be the result of a decaying mind.

Much like the saying "An Idle's mind is the devil's workshop",
I particularly enjoy playing with the second picture.

Kadayawan 2008 : Indigenous Art Exhibit

These are some of the works by Anoy Catague displayed at the Museo Dabawenyo last August 2008 dubbed as the "Anoy Catague Art Exhibit 2008".

The paintings depict the rich culture of the indigenous people in Mindanao collectively known as the Lumads. Music plays a vital role in the lumad's aspect of everyday living. Music is an expression of love and devotion to their works may it be in a farmer's field, wooing a woman or even a death of a person.

Anyways, if you cant' figure out what's in these paintings, simply they are just the replica of what we do everyday.

Silencio

gazing at the window pane

I look upon the stars

with my eyes wide awake

calmness there is

touching the night's coldness

put my hands in stiffness

with my heart enveloped in mist

left a scar so dark and sweet

in silence, in serenity, in solace

peace there is.

Golden Rule, a reflection

My philosophy in life is solely patterned from the maxim taught by almost all of the influential figures the world has produced notably Jesus Christ, Confucius, The Dalai Lama to name a few. This quote which I state in a positive phrase goes like this, “Do Unto Others What You Want Others Will Do Unto you”. I always bear this strong and moving maxim in my entire life which basically gives me a reason to reckon the purpose of doing things in their proper order.

My life exists as it is today because of the people who nurtured me and mold my mentality that life is a journey towards seeking perfection which can only be achieved by doing what is essentially right and evading what is essentially wrong. These people that I am referring to are my family.

Truly, the values instilled by my parents are maintained in every corner of my life, which later on help me to fulfill my ardent desires and endeavors. The phrase practically taught a lot of hard lessons in life. I learned to control my feelings, I learned to accept defeat and I learned to value life as it is. It is not that easy to carry on and commit with this philosophy. I was mocked by some, I was betrayed and I was used, simply because of my ideology and vow to this philosophy

The maxim which I often bear in my mind brings me to what I develop in my life, that is, the sense of volunteerism and the passion for service.

Yes, I admit it is very effortless and free to boast such words but I technically apply it in my daily routines. I learned life the hard way, more appropriate to say, “Been there, done that” way, though premature to say. The embodiment of service and volunteerism is very evident in my life. I just realized that the Divine Providence give me this kind of path simply to help me identify what a flat man lacks-LOVE.

Ad Infinitum

Health is considered to be one of the most valued possessions man could ever dream. Man always pursue for youthful image and tangible health in order to meet the demands from his environment. Most of the time, he wanted to reach the pinnacle where everything is perfect and order. In his quest towards perfection, he would defy advanced age, combat infirmity and would even settle in trading wealth in favor of health. Nonetheless, no matter how hard he tries to reach for that so called pinnacle; still the inevitable would stand out, the disease itself. Where man goes, disease follows and where man exists, disease coexists. Hence, man’s quest for eternal perfection seems to be ad infinitum.

Long before science was a breakthrough, diseases were paralleled to that of an evil, a curse, or worst, a tribulation from the Omniscient. Man often viewed them to be horrendous. Moreover, people who were stricken with such lethal diseases were left hopeless and abandoned. They were outcasts then. But as time progresses, science flourished and it paved a way for new discoveries and inventions. Medicines were designed to eradicate ailments; lifestyle was fashioned in a way that it could offer longevity to man’s existence. Because of these, man had experienced the real taste of life, where he can enjoy its contribution. Further, man was educated and more informed.

Despite the good effects science has provided, still the imperfections within himself made him eligible to succumb into illness especially as he advanced to old age. One such disease is cancer where it debilitates the person not only by its potency but by the devastating complications it could brought to the person’s health. True to its effect, the victim would be left hopeless and slowly deteriorates unless treated.

Later, man realized the importance of health, its impact and its influence to his life. bottom line- disease is a living testimony of man's imperfect existence.

Who are the Mandayas?

1. Mandaya, literally means “upstream or upland dweller”, is one of the natives in Eastern Mindanao particularly the province of Davao Oriental. The typical Mandaya has a fair complexion, black sawed teeth, relatively well-defined nose and, sometimes, aquiline.

Beliefs
2. The Mandayas believed on the two-fold principles of good and evil, which are represented by the good gods Mansilatan and Badla (father and son), and Pundaugnon and Malimbong (husband and wife) as the evil gods.

Dagmay Weaving and Rituals

3.Known for their artistic embroidery, hand-woven costumes (dagmay) and animistic rituals, the Mandayas have distinctive literary and ritualistic devices to celebrate their tribal life and belief in the form of bayok (epic song or impromptu incantation), dawot (love song), uyog-uyog (lullaby) and ritualistic dance headed by the balyan or babailan (high priest or priestess) similar to shaman.

The Bird of Omen

4.The limocon or limoken, an endangered specie in the eastern part of Davao, is a tiny yellow brown bird with short beak belonging to the family of pigeon, but almost ten times smaller than its size. The wild mystical bird is known as the bird of omen that plays a vital role in shaping the lives and beliefs of the native Mandaya.

Mystical chant

5. Bayok is a customary act of sharing and telling stories through epic song and free-flowing (impromptu) incantation on human struggle, love's sacrifice and adventure. The bayok is usually performed at night during the Mandaya festivities and occasional tribal events with the guests or visitors in the village. The Mandaya dialect itself is like a chant, which is spoken with syllabic intonation, making the bayok a unique form of literature and linguistic expression.

Kadayawan 2008: Mandaya Dagmay Weaving

Mandaya woman and her dagmay products. Kadayawan 2008.

The Mandaya is one of Mindanao’s surviving minority tribes of the Philippines. They live in the mountainous areas above the coastal town of Davao Oriental particularly in Boston, Cateel, Bagangga, Caraga and Manay. For many generations the Mandaya have woven cloth from fibers of native abaca tree, a variety of the banana family, which is abundant in the region. The finest grade of hemp extracted from abaca stalks is stripped pounded, combed then prepared for dyeing by tying thus, the word tie-dye. The dyes are made from mud, root and other organic materials.
This cloth is known locally as dagmay. It is distinguished from other tribal weaving by the intricate figures and patterns depicting the folklores and religion of the tribe. The Mandaya have carried the human and crocodile motifs to their highest expression. The crocodile is held sacred as shown by the frequency with which it appears in their decorative design. This art is handed down from generation. There is no patterns copy. Each design is an expression of the weaver. the unique culture of dagmay weaving by the Mandayan tribe earn them the title "Lumad that Weave Dagmay" .

Kadayawan 20018: Sir Anoy Catague's works

Last week's celebration of Kadayawan 2008 is truly unforgettable and nostalgic. the festivity brought so many vivid memories of my childhood days. My short immersion and interaction with the different lumad tribes was remarkable. The excitement even ran down from the depth of my veins as I mingle with them and knowing that from these veins thrive a portion of a Dabawenyo blood within me. Every single breath coming from my lungs and every sweat coming from my skin was nothing because of the thrill and eagerness to be in the events relevant to the celebration.

One unforgettable experience I have is when I got the sheer chance to visit Museo Dabawenyo situated along Magallanes Street. Upon entering the said haven, I was in awe and excitement, the feeling I had that time was like Harry Potter in his first yeat at Hogwarts whose innocence and naivity brought him to an unlikely adventure inside the magical school. While inside the museum I happened to enter a room filled with paintings from a man who devote himself in creating invaluable indigenous work of art. The man was Anoy Amar Catague. Weaving together this body of artwork is his depiction of lumad people in Mindanao and are the original inhabitants of the place. The Obras above are immortalized through the lumad's instruments of expression- Agong, Dabakan, Heglong,S'ludoy, Kulintang and Kubing among others. Muck Like the lumads, Anoy creates his work in complete harmony with the temporal and earthly activities of daily life.

Nanay Reina, a recollection

Today's the birthday of my late grandma, (+)Reina Reyes Day y Agujetas the mother of my Dad. When she was still around, I used to call her Nanay Rening. I really wanted to visit her in her tomb, unfortunately I can't because I'm still in Davao and I can't go back there yet, not until I am done with my DR cases. Probably I'll be at my probinsya later this week, and I'll surely get to visit her.

The last time I saw my Nanay Rening was a day prior to my departure going to Iloilo City for a youth convention, and that was barely five years ago. I can still remember that she gave me a sum of Php500 as her pabaon to me, and I really hug her tightly for that. anyways, so much for the reminiscing, lol. It's already June and I'll be coming back to my place and I will be seeing my friends there. I will surely visit all of the hot spots there. I really wanted to eat our native delicacies like paksiw na saugnon, fresh tatud with suka, ginisa na tatat, lupak na saging, and tuwa na taytay among others. anyways, do they sound weird? hmf, they are tasty and exotic actually.

Life after 20 years; a pursuit of happiness

I celebrated my birthday yesterday with some of my good old friends from high school, elementary and even kindergarten days, a reunion of friends at the same time. i prepared some seafoods and some wine to add taste and excitement to the occasion. I originally planned to have the party exclusive to my family because of the reason that I can't throw a huge evening party to all. yes, I don't have that enough money, in short- I'm experiencing financial scarcity.lol. in the middle of the party, thoughts came to my mind when I went to the CR, I remembered my friends who've been a part of my life already, "I wish they were here" was the line murmured by my mind. I just missed them.

We had fun the entire night and we shared so many memories that were almost forgotten in the bypassing years of our lives. I just couldn't contain the feeling of self-contentment.

Personally, my 21st natal day is a turning point in my life as an individual where I feel that life is indeed a fast paced one. I can say that this is really it. Sometimes, in order for one to grow and sprout, one has to sacrifice, and that's what I realized. This is the time where I need to follow my dreams and leave behind the things from the past. Now that I'm done with my 20 years of existence, I hope that I can live up my expectations for the next 20 or 30 years or more.

I'm at City Library

This day proves to be a boring one. I woke up early.Ate my breakfast early. I took my bath early just like I used to and glued myself to morning news at CNN and Umagang Kay Ganda. After an hour, 'di ko namalayan, I had fallen asleep again. haha. and poof, I woke up just when Game KNB players were shouting "Ba-Bye-Ba-Bye" to a contestant who lost the game and when Edu would say, "Let's do the Papaya Dance". Later this afternoon, sa sobrang ingay sa apartment (kasi nga, I was ALONE), and since I can't use my PC ( the CPU is at my friend's house- needs to be reformatted), I decided to go out. I rode a PUB going to the Museo Dabawenyo to browse on indigenous crafts which is one of my interests ever since. I hastily went to open the gate of the said Museum, only to find out that it's close for general cleaning. I thought I was going to get inside. It was pretty dispappointing actually. but I lost no hope, so I decided to go at City Library instead. Here I am, browsing the net and looking at my Multiply pictures, and waiting until my eyes get teary.

It's May DAY

I Hope it's not too late.

To my Mom- Happy Mother's Day to her.
To my aunt Marf- Happy Birthday.

These are the two women I considered to be influential in my life's sojourn. They were the butter to my bread. I was recently working out my schedules. My training in AITAH is very demanding that I have to sacrifice some of my work- including my time here writing stuffs (which i missed so much). It's mid-May already. Gotta Enjoy my summer.

perplexed..

It's been three days since I had my training for AITAH Davao- an institution for persons stricken with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and I still have a month long training before I can start my employment- for a record, this wil be my first ever employment after graduation which I know that I have a BIG FAT chance of being hired, yeah and i mean it (hahaha, over confidence eh?). But there are just things that I still have to consider, and i really have so many preoccupations about my soon to be work/job/employment/trabajo/trabaho/blah.blah.., and that is, WILL I,
enjoy from it?
get good compensation?
make new friends?
survive?
pass the training?
hahahahaha..tha I do not know..
I still have my unfinished business in my school, and I'm afraid I can't work on it earlier than my schedule. This really suck BIG TIME!!..

That's my Post Pinning Ceremony Party. well, I ka nga di mapapalitan nang ano mang halaga ang kasayahang walang katapusan ( bad tagalog there) hehe. Graduation Friendship

We’re graduating, and we know

Our lives will be different and new;

We’re going out into the world,

Our goals and dreams to pursue.

But one thing will never, ever change,

As we go our separate ways;

The friends we’ve made in school will be

Our friends for the rest of our days.

The special ties and attachments we’ve made,

These bonds will never be broken;

We’ll continue to feel the closeness,

Though words may not be spoken.

So it’s not "goodbye," but rather "farewell;"

I’ll see you again, my friend.

Your friendship means a lot to me,

And it will never end.

Tribute To Mama

It is almost four years since Mama passed away. Life is different after she died- different from what I expected it to be. I was forced to live without my family, I have to bear the unbearable pain that had pierced my heart since Mama left us. Fate brought me something I never expected. I learned to live life the hard way. I thought Mama already left me, I was wrong. She is in constant guidance. Now, after four years of struggle and hard work in college, "I reaped what I sowed". I really wanted Mama to accompany me in my graduation ceremony and letting her know that I made it. but again, that is life. Mama is happy now and very proud of me. I miss her so much!!

putting my toga on top of mama's grave

Shortly after my graduation ceremony last April 1, i went to visit my Mama's grave. I wanted her to feel that i never forgotten her. offering my toga and cap and a bunch of flowers is enough to say "Ma Thank you Very Much".

This day is my graduation day. Words aren't enough to express of what I feel and experience this day. Tears slowly clouded my eyes as the program began. I really can' t contain it knowing that at last I AM DONE. As for now, I am just so speechless. I hope the pics would help me express my feelings. Here are some of the pics before, during and after the program.
